Movable Manmade Island, Bohai Bay, China

Movable oil recovery & storage concrete island can replace shallow water fixed platforms and FPSO.
The Mobile Oil Recovery & Storage Concrete Island represents a revolutionary alternative to shallow-water fixed platforms and FPSO systems, integrating drilling, production, storage, and transport capabilities in a relocatable structure. Designed for large, medium, and marginal oil fields, the platform features anti-ice engineering, enabling year-round operations in harsh environments. Its modular construction allows multiple reuse cycles, offering low capital investment, reduced operating costs, minimal decommissioning expenses, enhanced safety, environmental protection, and simplified operations compared to conventional offshore installations.

Retained by CNOOC, HalcrowSea executed comprehensive concrete shell design, including process evaluation, finite element analysis, construction methodology development, and detailed cost estimation. The Full Concrete Concept Design encompassed holistic conceptual engineering, process assessment, structural integrity evaluation, and feasibility studies for construction, towing, installation, and subsequent removal operations. This integrated approach ensured the platform's technical viability across its entire lifecycle.

As a recyclable, cost-effective solution for offshore field development, this concrete island technology addresses critical challenges in marginal field economics while reducing environmental footprint. Demonstrating China's advancement in innovative offshore engineering, the platform establishes a new paradigm for sustainable oil and gas exploitation in ice-prone shallow waters.
