LNG FSU Hub, Indonesia

An innovation business model and LNG storage concept to cut down the LNG transport and storage cost.
LNGE, a Singapore-based private energy company, is developing a pioneering LNG Floating Storage Unit (FSU) Hub in Dumai, Indonesia, strategically positioned along the Strait of Malacca. The project is designed to establish a regional LNG distribution center with a total capacity of 3.3 MTPA, facilitating LNG trading and storage operations in Southeast Asia.

The hub will receive LNG via standard LNG carriers and redistribute it through small-scale carriers (20,000-80,000 cubic meters) to medium and long-distance destinations, while utilizing ISO container carriers for nearby markets. This flexible distribution model enables LNG access to remote and off-grid locations, supporting Indonesia's archipelagic energy needs.

HalcrowSea was commissioned to conduct conceptual design review and provide preliminary engineering for marine works, process design of onshore facilities, electrical systems, and instrumentation. The scope encompassed verification of terminal layout, marine infrastructure adequacy, and optimization of cargo transfer operations to ensure seamless LNG handling.

This project exemplifies the growing trend of floating storage solutions in Asia, leveraging Dumai's strategic maritime location to create a cost-effective, scalable LNG distribution network while supporting regional energy security and cleaner fuel access without the capital intensity of onshore terminals.
