Tibar Bay Port, East Timor

The peak ground acceleration (PGA) was 0.505 with 475 year return period. It's new challenge for whaft structure design.

The Government of Timor-Leste has identified Tibar Bay, 10 km west to Dili, as the site of a greenfield port handling cargo only. The new port will take over all the cargo operations from Dili port and has a 350,000 TEU capacity. This will relieve congestion currently experienced at the Dili port.

The project consists of construction and operation of a new port at Tibar Bay, under a PPP scheme. The Tibar Bay Port is expected to be operational by the end 2019 and replace Dili Port as Timor Leste’s principal port for cargo and container operations.

The terminal development was intended to be undertaken in two phases, with quay wall, dredging and reclamation completed in phase 1 and pavement and utilities completed during both phase 1 and phase 2. The port will be equipped with rail-mounted and mobile quay cranes to handle containers and general cargo.

HalcrowSea carried out the seismic calculation and verification for whaft structure and revetment based on three concepts, using SAP 2000 and Slide software. Optimized foundation treatment and whaft structure was provided for project owner's reference
